The Journal of Analytical Toxicology (JAT) is pleased to announce that Dr. Frank T. Peters from Germany and Dr. Dayong Lee from the United States have been appointed as the new co-Editors-in-Chief. Both Drs. Peters and Lee have been serving the journal as Senior Associate Editors and in other editorial roles for several years. They took up their new positions on 1 January 2025.

  • Dr. Frank Peters has been Head of Forensic and Clinical Toxicology at the Institute of Legal Medicine of Jena University Hospital in Jena, Germany, since 2009. Previously, Dr. Peters worked at the Department of Experimental and Clinical Toxicology of Saarland University in Homburg, Germany, where he obtained his PhD in 2003 and completed his habilitation in 2009. He has been active in several scientific societies including TIAFT, SOFT, and GTFCh. Currently, he is a member of the GTFCh board, the Quality Assurance Committee of the GTFCh, and the Expert Committee of the German Accreditation Body. Dr. Peters is the author or co-author of more than 100 peer-reviewed publications, one book, and 10 book chapters.

  • Dr. Dayong Lee has been with the Houston Forensic Science Center (HFSC) as its manager and Chief Toxicologist of the Toxicology section since 2015. She previously worked as a predoctoral fellow in the Intramural Research Program at the National Institute of Drug Abuse and as a postdoctoral associate in the clinical and forensic toxicology laboratories at the University of Florida. She currently serves as a director of the American Board of Forensic Toxicology, a director of the SOFT Board, and the Secretary of the AAFS Toxicology Section. Dr. Lee has published 36 peer-reviewed articles. She received her PhD in toxicology from the University of Maryland in Baltimore.

Peters and Lee remarked, “We are honored to serve the forensic toxicology community as the new JAT co-Editors-in-Chief, collaborating with our distinguished Editorial Board and Oxford University Press team to efficiently and effectively distribute top-notch research findings. We look forward to continuing to work with authors and reviewers to publish high-quality scientific articles. We sincerely thank Dr. Goldberger for his leadership and dedicated service over the past 24 years. We hope to carry on his legacy and further improve the journal by achieving several initiatives including 1) improving the guidelines for authors; 2) offering training on the preparation and review of manuscripts; 3) providing JAT updates at SOFT and TIAFT business meetings; and 4) actively seeking more engagement from the journal’s readership and contributors. Since its inception in 1977, JAT has been devoted to the timely dissemination of scientific communications concerning the analyses and interpretation of impairing and toxic substances in biological matrices with an emphasis on their applications to clinical and forensic toxicology.

JAT would like to take this opportunity to express its deepest gratitude to Dr. Goldberger , the current Editor-in-Chief, for his commitment and dedication to the journal since 2001. Dr. Goldberger will continue to serve the journal as an Emeritus Editor.
